There Are Some Weird Words In The World... The Flint Heart

In the book, "The Flint Heart" by John and Katherine Paterson, and illustrated by John Rocco, there are many different characters. Most of them have names, which are quite unique, except for a few.
The award I would give this book, is..... Most Creative Names. I give this book this award because the authors uses name such as Phutt, Brockotockotick, Unity, Teddy, Mr. De Quincey, Zagabog, Snick, Jacky Toads, Marsh Galloper, Mr. Meles, Flip, Chum, Ship, Bismarck, and many more. These aren't exactly the type of names that just pop into your mind at any given time. These names take time and effort to come up with. The book rightfully deserves this award, this is one of the key details that makes this book even better.

I Wonder If... Copper

In the book, " Copper" by Rebecca Lisle, there is a average girl named Copper who just turned ten years old, when her whole life changes. Her Aunt Ruby, whom she has lived with almost her entire life, has now sent her away to the Spindle House to live. As she arrives at the surprisingly familiar Spindle House, she meets some unfriendly neighbors, the Rockers. They are consistently trying to burn down the Spindle House, because of a feud between their families.
When Copper is kidnapped by the Rockers, she is brought over to their house to meet their leader, Granite. There, Granite asks Copper to give him a charm bracelet, that she has made over the years by recieving charms every year on her birthday. Copper refuses to hand over the bracelet, so, Granite locks her in a chamber with no windows, food, or water.
If Copper had given up the bracelet to Granite without the slighest bit of resistence, the whole story would have drastically altered. If she had given up the bracelet of gold, the feud would have never been solved, Aunt Ruby would have never found her pet dragon and her lost son, Copper would have never got her family back together again, and Silver would have been stuck with the Rockers, held captive along with her newborn puppies. We would have not seen the happy ending that everyone knows, loves, and can't get enough of.

And The Award Goes To...Dirty Magic

In the book, ''Dirty Magic'' by Carol Hughes, they are many made up inventions, such as Zamrami's, Goliaths, and Scrapers, and one huge Amadragon. They're not exactly the type of things machines you would think of right off the top of your head. That is why the award I am giving this book is, most imaginative creations. As I mentioned earlier, There are Zamrami's which are machines built to take away all of your vision. At its base, it carries a giant light that blinds you, and takes away your pupils, even if you just look at it for a millisecond. The next creation is a Goliath. It is this enormous machine that is almost like a tank, but more advanced. It has the structure of a tank, and a cannon at the top. When the Goliath senses any movement, its cannon swivels around to face in the direction of the movement and fires. Then comes a Scraper. It is a diabolical machine. It is almost like a helicopter. It can fly in the air to get a better view of the battle and the threats. Onc it detects its target, it locks on to the one space, focusing only on that area. Then wire-like ropes shoot out from underneath with peircing sharp grapplings hooks like things, at each of the ends. Once they can physically touch their target, the grappling hooks clamp on to the threat, and basically squeeze them to death. They hold on to its mark, and jerk them back with immense speed. During this, the hooks squeeze tighter and tighter, until the job is complete. If the Scraper doesn't succeed the first time, then it will go through the whole process again until the job is done.
Then there is the Amadragon. It isn't a real dragon, but it is made to like one. It breathes fire, and even flies. It is a enormous metal dragon, that guards a secret passageway. It doesn't fight, but it keeps everyone in town on their toes.
These inventions are one-of-a-kind. No one can mimic these unique creations, they can only come from a mind that thinks outside the box. This are a few of the many reasons why this book got this award.

Just Read It... The Tale of Despereaux

During the book, "The Tale of Despereaux" by Kate Dicamillo, a mouse named Despereaux was born. From that second on, Despereaux was always different from the other mouses. For one, he had abnormally large ears, larger than any other mouse had ever seen before. Also, when he was born, he was born with his eyes open, which is just simply not done as a mouse. Just as when a baby is born, it cries; it is the same concept.
From the start, Despereaux was the oddball in the mischief of mice. He was the one to read the words on the paper instead of eating it. He would stare on wonder at the colors instead of moving across the floor to safety.
This all happened because he was supposed to be different than all the other mice. Eventually, he come upon dangerous tasks, such as going to the dungeon filled with rats, and dead men who never made it back up alive. Talking to humans, which was forbidden by the mouse council. All to save his true the love, the princess.
But, would Despereaux even make it out of the dungeon? Or would he just wonder what was happening in the world, while he wasted away in the dungeon?

Extra, Extra, Read All About It... Into The Mist

In the book, "Into The Mist" by Patrick Carman, two brothers, Roland, the person telling the story, and Thomas, his brother. Roland is on a ship, The Warwick Beacon, telling hre his two shipmates, Yipes and Alexa, about his earlier adventures before his time out on the sea. The book ends with him telling them that they headed towards the realm of lost children to battle a upcoming monster. I thought this of another way to end this story which is still in the point of view of Alexa.
"So where are you taking us Roland?" Yipes piped.
"We are headed to a place of my past. Where the whole journey begun." replied Roland.
"We're going to Madame Vicker's House?" I said excitedly.
     "Indeed we are."
I was so excited, this was the first time in a long time that we are actually doing something
from cleaning the deck, rising sails, or making food.
We would get to meet Thomas! After years apart Roland would finally get to reunite with his brother, and we would get to meet the determined, brave brother who went along with Roland on these amazing adventures.
"In fact, we have just reached our destination."

What Does It Really Mean... Island's End

In the book, "Island's End" by Padma Venkatraman, Uido is a regular teenage girl of the En-ge tribe is destined to become the new oko-jumu. She goes through a series of tests involving healing, making fire, and traveling to the Otherworld. In the book, Uido must convince the people of her tribe she is worthy of the title, oko-jumu, but some refuse to accept a woman oko-jumu.
She must do whatever she has to do to protect the people of her tribe, even if it includes leaving behind one of their fellow family members.
The theme of this book is, that even though sometimes things might change and get newer, you must adapt to the changes , but still stay true to your roots. This means that, things will change, get newer, and different. When this does happen, you have to change with it, but not completely. You change to adapt, but still keep what you did in your past.
For example, if the clothing style changes, you can change the type of clothes you wear, but still wear your old clothes to fit in to your styles or surroundings.
